23.4 sec of freedom

Outdoors dance film

Synopsis

23.4 sec of freedom explores the notion of bodily and relational freedom, in relation to ourselves, each other and the space we find ourselves in. It plays with a dynamic intimacy between the performers themselves as well as with its audience. A dialogue rooted in action and reaction, giving and receiving, being and becoming, creates a three-dimensionality that sometimes complements and sometimes contrasts the surroundings. The body becomes a living sculpting material that highlights the landscape and the intricate relationship we are witness to.

The creative process

By creating 23.4 seconds of freedom, Daniela wanted to find intimacy between the two performers and question their relationship and their past lived together. She sought to create a dialogue between the performers that could be conceived by the audience.

The notion of freedom has been questioned and sought in our bodies as well as in space. The choreographic material has been constructed through extensive research: eyes open or closed - how this changes the audience's experience, can suggest dynamic intimacy and enhance the landscape, solo dance in relation to duo dance, as well as the use of two bodies in contact as material to create a living and dynamic sculpture.

23.4 second of freedom was first created as a live performance but later reinterpreted as a dance film. The landscape became an integral part of the process when the rehearsals were redirected outside during the pandemic. Daniela and Florencia spent time living in the environments and dancing in them, or rather with them. The notion of freedom has been reworked in spaces that can remind us of our freedom, such as the sea.
